Work From Anywhere
In the recent months, we have seen that people have been working from home. This trend is going to be work from anywhere. More companies are allowing this flexibility which many workers have requested for.
With that said, comes a welcome change and hopefully the increased productivity and flexibility that workers have been wanting. Unfortunately, we also have to factor some risks, which is security and accountability.
Personally I have been working from anywhere for the past few years. It has allowed me to be there for family during difficult times. I even been at the hospital when my father was admitted for a health condition. Even have been able to work while relocating across the country while looking at houses. You have to have clear and open communication with your colleagues and let them know when you will be available and how you can be reached. If you provide the proper measures then you can be successful. Sometimes you will put in long hours because you are working across time zones, but you figure out what works best for you and your team members.
Now lately, we have seen added risk from working from anywhere is that data can be compromised from weak wifi security or personal security on devices. More companies are adding layers of security to make sure data cannot be compromised, but it is also the responsibility of the person behind the computer to make sure they follow cyber security protocols. Most companies provide cyber security training but this is never enough.
When you work from anywhere, you have to be accountable. You have to be available but have means of communicating with your team. Video conferencing has become much easier now. These tools allow for people to see and react to the person. However with these changes, we have to be aware people can be anywhere and we have to be aware of their and our surroundings.
We are in a world of change. These changes are going to help lots of companies out. People will have to embrace these changes as we evolve into working from anywhere. See you there!
